Collaboration ZINE “PLANTS IN THE CITY” 些細な会話の種をまく植物ユニット”How’s your life?” と都市とライフスタイルを考えるシティガイド”CORNER”、 ２者が拠点である東京の植物たち、そしてCORNERがコペンハーゲンへ旅した際に見つけた植物たち。 ２都市における植物のあり方、人との距離感を比較した。 左右どちらからも読み始めることができる構成になっています。 真ん中には、今回のZINEのコンセプトや、制作を通して気付いたことが記されています。 製本としては、ミシン綴じを採用することで、 考察と想いを一つの冊子に閉じ込めるさまを表現しました。 このZINEをきっかけに、植物が都市を見つめる新たな視点になりますように。 “How’s your life?” is a plant unit that plants the seeds of small conversations, while “CORNER” is a city guide that explores cities and lifestyles. Created through the encounter between these two projects, this ZINE compares Tokyo and Copenhagen through the plants found in each city, focusing on their presence in urban life and their relationship with people. It is designed to be read from either the left or the right side. At the center, you will find the concept of this ZINE and the realizations that emerged through the process of making it. As for the binding, we chose machine stitching to express the act of enclosing both reflection and feeling within a single booklet. May this ZINE become an opportunity to see the city from a new perspective through plants.

I always considered Copenhagen as a travel destination and possibly a future city to live in, with the art and design, the clean streets, the local bicycle traffic, the fresh Scandinavian breezes, the living close to the sea, and the beautiful yet gentle cuisine that makes the most of the ingredients. Living in the metropolis of Tokyo for the past several years, I have been enjoying nature in various parts of Japan every time I go on vacation, and my interest in nature has grown. I have been thinking about the impact of nature on people and how cities and their inhabitants interact with nature. Moreover, as I encounter various creations in urban life, I find myself increasingly reflecting on the idea that, regardless of whether it’s analog revival, history, culture, or art, nothing ultimately surpasses the greatness and beauty of nature. I was conscious of Copenhagen because I felt that there might be hints as to where this flickering thought should lead. Places that have since closed remain included, with notes added, as part of the cityscape that shaped the mood of that time. This book is not a guide that aims to provide the most up-to-date information. It is a record of Los Angeles as seen through CORNER’s perspective in 2022. I hope you will feel the atmosphere that flowed through the city then, including the places that have changed since, and that this book may still accompany someone on their journey to Los Angeles today.
